Estar with Prepositions

To express the location of an object or a person in Spanish you use the verb estar and prepositions.

Estar = To be (location)

(yo)estoy = I am
(tú)estás = You are
(él)está = He is
(ella)está = She is
(usted)está = You (formal) are
(nosotros/nosotras)estamos = We are
(ellos/ellas)están = They are
(ustedes)están = All of you are

al lado de = next to
a la derecha de = to the right of
a la izquierda de = to the left of
allá = over there
allí = there
cerca de = near
con = with
debjo de = below
delante de = in front of
detrás de = behind
en = in or on
encima de = on top of
entre = between or among
lejos de = far from
sobre = on or over

Examples:

Mis amigos y yo estamos delante de Pablo.
My friends and I are in front of Pablo.

Yo estoy lejos de mi casa.
I am far from my home.

Tú estás a la derecha del escritorio.
You are to the right of the desk.

Nueva York está cerca de New Jersey.
New York is near New Jersey.
